A self documentation of the intimacy of a path, the whispered dialogue of a personal discovery of Islam.

 

Photos, digital collages and video illustrate three different phases. Firstly, my lonely ‘apprenticeship’ of the rituals and my dependence on mobile phone Islamic applications for guidance and recitation of the Quran. 

It also documents the steps of a quest through the Islamic precepts discovered during conversations. Finally the camera captures the surge of freedom and ease found within the faith.

 

While Islam is often portrayed unkindly in the media, this project also aims to display the peaceful nature of the religion and focus on its teachings of good moral conduct.

 

'i-islam' is a tribute to the people who helped to unlock the doors to this beautiful garden where I have found the best version of myself, and to those who have inspired me to understand and love this religion.
